The Hells Kitchen Flea Market

Before I move to the Hamptons for the summer, I’ve been spending my weekends as a vendor at the Hells Kitchen Flea Market which starts at 39th and 9th and is open from 9am-5pm every Saturday and Sunday year round! I’ve always LOVED flea markets/tag sales so the first time I did this show it was hard to be glued to my table for the whole day because all I wanted to do was hunt for some sick vintage jewelry (which happens to be a weakness of mine!).

While my friend Sam from The Missing Piece held down the fort and watched my table, I did a lap or two around the flea and found some awesome chachkas and met some pretty interesting people to say the least!

While walking around the market with wandering eyes, I fell in love with some furs, a pair of Fryes and although I didn’t have time to sort through the vintage racks of clothes, I got a kick out of watching someone read, pick out and buy old postcards. Just so happens, she collects old post cards and was reading them for over an hour already! I read a few but got distracted (typical) by the mute homeless man riding a children’s hot pink bicycle, wearing peace sign sunglasses and a large statue of liberty hat…normal!

Among my lap around, Jeorjia Shea’s artwork caught my eye. I was really drawn to her style and she said it best in her artist statement, “Sometimes the best canvas isn’t a canvas at all.” I have an old pair of high top ivory canvas sneakers that my friend graffitied my initials on with some peace signs but it could use some more decoration to say the least so I’m handing over my sneaks that have been hibernating all winter over to Jeorjia to work her magic on! Check out some art from her booth below!

Besides all the great things you could find at the HK Flea Market there are some pretty good food options. If you’re looking for a fun brunch spot with some awesome eats and good music check out HK before you venture into the land of many tables and tents. I always use the restroom here since it’s the closest to my table and it looks like the champagne, mimosas and bloody marys are always flowing and the food looks delish! If you want to take it down a notch, check out the food trucks outside the market. They say that on the third weekend of every month, the HK market brings in many food trucks so there are many options for lunch. On mothers day the Lukes Lobster Truck made its debut and lets just say I appreciate a good lobster roll so I’m looking forward to my next trip to the market!
